Prof. Ryall is one of the world's leading authorities in philosophy.

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the Dean of the Faculty of Croatian Studies, Prof. Tomislav Krstičević, Ph.D., welcomed Prof. Emily Ryall, Ph.D., from the University of Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom. Prof. Ryall will spend the next three academic years, until 2027, at the Faculty as a visiting professor in the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies.

Prof. Ryall (https://www.glos.ac.uk/staff/profile/emily-ryall/) is a globally recognized authority in the philosophy of sport and the philosophy of play and games. She is the author of numerous scientific publications, among which two particularly influential books stand out: Philosophy of Sport: Key Questions and Critical Thinking for Sports Students. She is also a co-author and editor of various books and articles published in prestigious scientific journals, including the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport (USA) and Sport, Ethics and Philosophy (UK), where she serves as a co-editor. Prof. Ryall has also been the president of the British Philosophy of Sport Association.

Beyond her academic career, Prof. Ryall frequently appears in prominent media outlets such as the BBC, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, The Guardian, and The New York Times, offering commentary on current sports events and ethical issues in sports. She collaborates actively with organizations such as UK Athletics, the Rugby Football Union, Sports Resolutions, the British Association for Sport and Exercise Sciences, and NATO.

This valuable collaboration was made possible through the initiative of Assist. Prof. Matija Mate Škerbić, Ph.D., who has already worked successfully with Prof. Ryall on several international projects and conferences, as well as within associations for the philosophy of sport.

During her stay, Prof. Ryall will actively participate in teaching, especially in courses led by Assist. Prof. Škerbić. Additionally, plans include publishing papers in international journals, participating in scientific conferences, and preparing project applications for Horizon and Erasmus+ programs. The aim of these projects is to strengthen the collaboration of the Faculty of Croatian Studies with European and British universities.
