From January 20 to 23, 2025, Postdoctoral Researchers Tamara Bodor and Monika Balija, faculty members from the Department of Demography and Croatian Emigration at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, visited Munich in the Federal Republic of Germany as part of the Faculty's institutional project titled “Migration Processes Between Germany and Croatia: Return of the First and Second Generation Croatian Emigrants in Bavaria?”
The working visit included lectures by project members, thematically dedicated to Croatians in Germany, held within the framework of the Academic Circle at the Croatian Catholic Parish Munich and the Croatian House Munich. Tamara Bodor and Monika Balija delivered their lectures in person, while Associate Professor Dr. Wollfy Krašić, a leader and member of the project, gave his lecture online. Following the lectures, there was a dynamic roundtable discussion on the topic of Croatians in Germany and their potential return to Croatia.
During the working visit to the Croatian community in Munich, the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, and the opportunities for study within quotas for Croatians outside the Republic of Croatia were presented, as well as the Proceedings from the II International Scientific-Professional Conference "Contemporary Fate of Croatian Gastarbeiter Heritage". Additionally, research was conducted on the intentions of return to Croatia.
The working visit in Munich also included a meeting with Vladimir Duvnjak, the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Munich, while Consul Sonja Lovrek Velkov attended and supported the realization of other aforementioned activities within the project. Due to the significance and topicality of the theme, the project was covered by media, including the show "Global Croatia" and Fenix Magazine.
