World Logic Day, celebrated on January 14, is an opportunity to promote the importance of logical reasoning and a critical approach to problem-solving. This year, the Library of the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb served as the venue for the event, which brought together representatives from secondary education, student, and academic levels, with the aim of establishing this celebration as a tradition.
The organization of this event was jointly undertaken by the Faculty of Croatian Studies, the Croatian Logic Association, the Faculty of Philosophy and Religious Studies, the Institute of Philosophy, and the Center for Public Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy.
On behalf of the acting Dean, the Vice Dean for Science, Assoc. Prof. Andreja Sršen welcomed the participants and speakers. Additionally, the Head of the Department of Philosophy and Culturology, Assist. Prof. Marko Kardum extended his greetings, expressing satisfaction with the successful commencement of the event and hope that it would evolve into a traditional gathering. Furthermore, the participants were addressed by Assist. Prof. Marina Novina on behalf of the Croatian Logic Association, Luka Boršić, PhD, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, on behalf of the Institute, and Assist. Prof. Ines Skelac, Vice Dean at the Faculty of Philosophy and Religious Studies, representing the faculty.
The program was enriched by presentations from representatives of various levels of education and academic institutions. Barbara Babič, a student at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, delivered a presentation, while Krešimir Gracin, a professor from XV Gymnasium in Zagreb, also participated. The academic level was represented by Full Prof. Davor Lauc from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, Assist. Prof. Igor Martinjak from the Faculty of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and Ivan Restović, PhD, from the Institute of Philosophy.
This event brought together all philosophy programs at the University of Zagreb, fostering the exchange of ideas and promoting logic as an essential component of education and scientific research. Participants engaged enthusiastically in discussions, further emphasizing the significance of such events for the development of the philosophical and logical community.
The celebration of World Logic Day concluded with the hope that this gathering would become a lasting contribution to the promotion of logic within society.
