On December 6th, at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb and the Croatian World Congress. The Croatian World Congress is "an international, nonprofit, nongovernmental, and nonpartisan organization, tasked with connecting all Croatians, Croatian associations, and institutions outside the Homeland, thereby creating better conditions and interests for the Croatian homeland and its diaspora." Its goals "are to enhance unity among Croatians, realize their aspirations, ensure the continuity and development of their religious, spiritual, cultural, social, and sports heritage." The organization was founded in 1993, with its global headquarters in New York, and operates in around thirty countries worldwide. In 1998, "as a nongovernmental international organization with consultative status," the Croatian World Congress was admitted to the United Nations.
The Agreement on Cooperation defines that the Faculty of Croatian Studies and the Croatian World Congress will foster cooperation in the following areas:
- organization and implementation of practical work and training for students
- joint preparation of scientific-professional gatherings, conferences, and round tables
- encouragement and implementation of scientific research and projects
- printing of joint publications, monographs, and proceedings
- connecting the academic and scientific community with institutions that care for the preservation of the identity of Croatians outside the Republic of Croatia
- promotion of joint activities
Mr. Franjo Pavić, one of the long-standing, leading officials of the Croatian World Congress, after signing the Agreement on Cooperation, on behalf of the Croatian World Congress awarded the Faculty of Croatian Studies a medal "for promoting Croatian national interests," in the context of the existing excellent cooperation with several faculty members and as a pledge for an even more extensive and varied joint effort.
