About Us

The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.

Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov Appeared on N1 Studio to Discuss the Social Consequences of Corruption

Assistant Professor Ivan Perkov from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, appeared on the program N1 Studio Live on Friday, 13 February, where he discussed the prevalence of corruption and its social consequences.

During the interview, he emphasized that corruption has become largely normalized in Croatian society and represents a serious threat to social development and national security. He illustratively compared the spread of corruption to downy mildew, which gradually affects the entire system if negative patterns are not recognized and addressed in time.

He also highlighted that research consistently shows citizens identify corruption as one of the most significant social problems, while its consequences are reflected in economic losses and the weakening of institutions. As key elements in combating corruption, he pointed to the importance of education, civic education, and more active citizen participation in public life.
