About Us

The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.

Associate Professor Dario Pavić Appointed to the Editorial Board of the Journal Društvena istraživanja

Associate Professor Dario Pavić from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, has been appointed a member of the Editorial Board of the respected academic journal Društvena istraživanja (Social Research).

Društvena istraživanja is a journal dedicated to general social issues, fostering thematic and disciplinary openness. It publishes papers from various social sciences and humanities disciplines – including sociology, psychology, political science, history, law, economics, demography, and related fields – as well as interdisciplinary research. All submissions undergo an anonymous peer-review process.

The journal, published by the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar, has been issued quarterly since 1992. It is indexed in Current Contents – Social & Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences Citation Index and Journal Citation Reports (Thomson Reuters), ERIH PLUS, IBSS – International Bibliography of the Social Sciences, Political Science Complete, SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCO), Scopus (Elsevier), DOAJ – Directory of Open Access Journals, Hrčak – Portal of Croatian Scientific Journals, and Social Science Premium Collection (ProQuest).

Associate Professor Pavić graduated in philosophy and sociology from the Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb (today the Faculty of Croatian Studies – FHS) and obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He completed academic training at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Utrecht University. His research interests include demography, reproductive ecology, the application of statistical software, scientific communication, and lifelong learning. At the sociology programme, he teaches courses in research methodology, demography, and statistical methods.

His appointment to the Editorial Board of Društvena istraživanja represents recognition of his academic and teaching contributions.
