Sociology Programme at FCS Leads in International Mobility and English-Taught Courses

The Sociology Programme at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, stands out as the programme with the most developed international cooperation and mobility of students and academic staff, as well as the programme offering the largest number of courses taught in English at the Faculty.

Under the current inter-institutional agreements, students and academic staff of the Department of Sociology may participate in exchange programmes at 13 foreign universities, covering a total of 14 study programmes. Mobility opportunities are available at both undergraduate and graduate levels of study.
Student exchanges typically last five or six months, while staff mobility is most often organised for a duration of five working days. A full list of all concluded agreements is available via the provided link.

International Agreements and Mobility

The Department of Sociology has established agreements with a number of renowned European universities in the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. These partnerships enable sociology students to attend courses taught in English, engage in international research environments, and gain valuable academic and cultural experience.

Cooperation includes student mobility at undergraduate and graduate levels with clearly defined quotas per institution, as well as staff mobility for teaching activities, professional development, and strengthening academic collaboration. Some agreements also involve exchanges with multiple constituent units of the same university, further expanding the range of available study programmes.

English-Taught Courses at the Department of Sociology

International mobility is further strengthened by the fact that, starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, the Department of Sociology will offer a broad range of 12 courses taught in English, available both to incoming exchange students and to domestic students. A complete list of all English-taught courses is available via the provided link.

The Faculty of Croatian Studies has concluded a total of 22 inter-institutional agreements with foreign higher education institutions. Within this framework, the Sociology Programme stands out in particular due to the number of partner universities, extensive student and staff mobility opportunities, and its wide offering of courses taught in English. This ensures a strong international dimension of the programme and enables students to actively participate in contemporary academic and research environments.
