The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.
During the past month, all members of the teaching staff of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies participated in a joint photo session for the Department’s website, with the aim of creating uniform, professional, and contemporary photographs that appropriately represent the Department’s teaching staff in the digital environment.
The organisation and coordination of the photo session were initiated by Dr. Lana Pavić, an external associate of the Department of Sociology and the Department of Communication Studies, who has extensive professional experience working in the media.
The photography was carried out by Vedran Tolić, MA in Journalism, a recognised photographer, educator, and owner of Vedran Tolić
Photography. He began his professional career as a journalist at Sportske novosti, where he also established himself as a photojournalist. His photographs have been published in numerous Croatian media outlets, exhibited at exhibitions, and awarded. He is also the author of the professional book In the Vortex of Weddings and has led numerous photography workshops and educational programmes.
An additional value of this photo session was its educational dimension. The session was attended live by students of the graduate programme in Communication Studies as part of the course The Profession of Journalism, in which Dr. Lana Pavić also serves as an external associate. Students had the opportunity to observe first-hand the process of professional preparation for studio photography, approaches to working with portrait subjects, and the technical and communication aspects of photography.
It is important to note that Vedran Tolić carried out the photography on a voluntary basis and waived his copyright to the resulting photographs. Members of the Department may also use the photographs for other professional and public purposes. On this occasion, the Department of Sociology would like to thank Vedran Tolić for his cooperation, professional approach, and the time and effort invested in the realisation of this photo session.
The new photographs of all teaching staff members are available on their individual profiles, which can be viewed here.
